My first attempt at upholstery is a cushion. I am actually very pleased with this first attempt at making something especially as it involved me facing my childhood fear of the electric sewing machine!
the ladies in the sewing workshop were very helpful and let us choose our own project. Ultimately I would like to reupholster a chair for my daughters bedroom but I choose to make a cushion to familiarise myself with the whole idea of selecting appropriate fabrics, whether or not to use piping and if finishing off with some sort of decoration may be a good idea. The fabric I choose was very neutral, which a conscious decision once it was complete I decided that perhaps it was a little bit plain so a bit of decoration in the form of buttons was required. I choose to make a heart shape out of different coloured buttons as I thought this would create a vintage feel. And I have to say I was quite pleased with the results! However after giving much deliberation to which of my three daughters I would give my masterpiece I was rather disappointed that actually NONE of them actually wanted it! So it now sits on the sofa in the sitting room for us all to share.
